What is a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)?

A Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is a safety feature that is designed to continuously monitor the air pressure in your vehicle’s tyres and alert you if it drops below the recommended level. It helps improve safety, fuel efficiency and tyre lifespan by ensuring that your tyres remain properly inflated.

Types of TPMS

There are two main types of TPMS:

Direct TPMS
This uses pressure sensors inside each tyre to measure the real-time air pressure and send alerts to the driver if a tyre is underinflated.

Indirect TPMS
This type works through the ABS system, detecting changes in wheel rotation speed to estimate pressure loss.

Why is TPMS important?

• It enhances your safety by minimising the risk of blowouts and poor handling from under-inflated tyres.
• It gives you better fuel economy – correct tyre pressure reduces rolling resistance, improving fuel efficiency.
• It prolongs the lifespan of your tyres by encouraging even tyre wear.

What should I do if my TPMS warning light comes on?
